Anyone seen out there any 60s bands? In my book Whole Lotta Led--go to www.wholelottaledthebook.com -- I write about the psychedelic San Francisco scene in 1967 and what the term HIPPIE may have meant: "Help In Promoting Peaceful Individual Existence." It's in the first chapter about the wild, psychedelic music scene with the Yardbirds & other bands. I also write about me seeing various bands like the Doors, Jefferson Airplane and Buffalo Springfield. The Doors were my first-ever rock concert--they played shortly after their first album came out at my high school, Crescenta Valley in La Crescenta, near Los Angeles. That got me into music, seeing various wild bands in the 60s and then taking pictures during the 70s. No one thought about any of this becoming music history--artists like Jimi Hendrix, the Doors and Led Zeppelin were just who happened to be around at that time & that's who we went to see. Explosive! So--share your stories about seeing bands here if you want. Vanilla Fudge just reformed and they're great!

You are lucky to have seen so many legendary artists perform. I didn't go to concerts in the sixties, but I went to some in the seventies. It was so much cheaper with concert tickets in those days.

Gotta agree with Woodstock--ticket prices have gone through the roof! Ridiculous prices these days--$300 on up for the Eagles and Rolling Stones, being just a few examples. In 1968 I paid $6 to see about 7 bands at the Kaleidoscope in Hollywood, including Clear Light (what a truly psychedelic band--check out their only album on Electra!) Steppenwolf, Jefferson Airplane and Buffalo Springfield. Prices for me in the 70s was less than $15 for a show--basic price to see Lynyrd Skynyrd, Fleetwood Mac, Loggins & Messina & Rod Stewart & the Faces at Balboa Stadium on 8/31/75 was $7.50--other shows by '77 were averaging $15-$25. I think I paid $30 for Fleetwood Mac in '77 & thought that was pretty high. I don't see near as many shows now. There are still deals though--I DID pay $20 this past July to see Vanilla Fudge, Quicksilver, Jefferson Starship & Steppenwolf at the Orange County Fair. Most shows out here in S. Calif. are around $60-$100 +. So I refuse to pay. Ticket agencies are charging a lot more than that! Once greed entered the picture, times changed for good. What ruined the concert scene for good prices in San Diego were the ticket agencies, or scalpers. If you look at rock history on a business level--after Woodstock & the movie came out, businessmen saw that rock concerts were big money.
