A new study for echinacea,I usually put a few drops in my tea in the winter after this report I`ll keep it to alittle.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The herbal supplement echinacea, often used to prevent the common cold, may also be connected to an increase in bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract, according to a recently published study by a University of Arkansas professor and graduate student. Jerald C. Foote, assistant professor of food and human nutrition, and graduate student Laura Hill studied the supplement's effect on 15 healthy adults who took echinacea for 10 days.
The researchers found that bacteria increased in the adults' gastrointestinal tracts after taking the supplement.
Increased concentrations of certain bacteria have been reported in people at high risk for colon cancer, Foote and Hill said. One of the strains found in the study — Bacteroides fragilis — may contribute to inflammatory bowel disease and diarrhea, the researchers said.
In their report, which was published in the Journal of Clinical Pharmacy and Therapeutics, the researchers say larger studies are needed to determine whether components of echinacea affect bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract.

I have used it for more colds than I can count in the past as well. I think that I will continue to use it too. Only when I have a cold though. Use in moderation can't be that harmful to a person.
