Hi all, for the past month spinach from california have been recalled because of e-coil causing death and infecting many, then 3 companys making carrot juice have recalled there product,2 people in Toronto are now paralyzed because of Botulism and one company was organic, the last was for lettuce,in the papers they found the source it was in California it was because cow manure got in the water. It really is scary what we eat even if its organic.

It seems we're going to have to start cooking everything, or growing it on our own in order to know if it is safe soon! Things are getting really crazy these days man!

Hi Bobin, Very scary,I`ve stopped eating spinach and lettuce even the Canadian kind, god I actually drank one of the 3 carrot juices company at one time. Its scary the company`s like the one out of california when cow manure hits the water,it goes into the veg/product so even if you wash it it doesn`t matter. But the case of the 2 people in toronto they are now paralyzed from drinking carrot juice.Makes me want to grab a steak, but you know that has a disease also,,all stick to water ha ha.

You can get on the FDA food recall alert list and receive alerts in your e-mail. It's quite disturbing to find out how many foods get recalled. Just last week, they recalled some whole wheat breads for having pieces of metal in them, and canned green beans for some botulism or something. The chinese toymaker responsible for sending us all the lead-containing toys hanged himself today. A bit harsh, but at least he had a sense of shame.

California grower recalls salmonella- tainted spinach LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - California produce grower Metz Fresh LLC said on Wednesday it voluntarily recalled fresh spinach in grocery stores and food service packages after a sample tested positive for salmonella. The privately held King City, California-based company and a spokesman from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said there have been no reports of illness or problems related to the spinach. The products were distributed in the continental United States and Canada under the Metz Fresh label. Recalled packages include 10-ounce and 16-ounce bags, as well as 2.5 and 4 pound bags shipped in cartons. The affected spinach carries tracking codes 12208114, 12208214 and 12208314. Metz Fresh spokesman Greg Larsen said the issue first came to the company's attention on Friday when a single sample taken during routine testing conducted by an independent lab came back "presumptive positive" for salmonella. The sample was confirmed positive for salmonella late on Tuesday, Larsen said. On Friday, Metz Fresh tracked, located and put 'holds' on the vast majority of the cartons of affected spinach. As a result, more than 90 percent of the more than 8,100 cases in transit were halted. That spinach will not be released into the marketplace. FDA spokesman Mike Herndon said the agency is working with Metz Fresh to determine which states received recalled spinach. Consumers should discard any product related to the recall or return it to the place of purchase for a refund. Metz Fresh has set up a telephone line for questions at 831-386-1018. Salmonella is a food-borne pathogen that can cause severe illnesses, including fever, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. While many people recover without treatment, salmonella infections can be life-threatening to infants, young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. Concerns about food safety have risen after E. coli-tainted bagged spinach killed three people and sickened more than 200 last year. This year, a widespread outbreak of salmonella from peanut butter made more than 600 people sick and pet food products imported from China were linked to the deaths of animals in the United States. Here we go again whats with the standards in California. For awhile now I try to buy something that is not from California and China,,any thoughts.

I am sort of glad that I haven't been eating fresh spinach lately, that is all I've got to say! It seems to be having a lot of problems lately. And we get a LOT of stuff from California around here where I live.

Dole recalls bagged salads due to E. coli LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A division of Dole Food Co said on Monday it was recalling some bagged salads sold in the United States and Canada because a sample at a Canadian grocery store was found to contain E. coli. Dole Fresh Vegetables said it has not received any reports that anyone has become sick from eating the products. The recall covers "Dole Hearts Delight" salads sold with a "best if used by" date of September 19. In recent months, Dole has stepped up its testing and tracking of produce to prevent outbreaks of E. coli such as the one linked to bagged spinach last year that sickened hundreds and killed three. Several other high-profile food safety scares in the last year have aggravated concerns among consumers and federal health regulators, including an E. coli outbreak linked to Yum! Brands Inc's Taco Bell restaurants in the U.S. Northeast and a salmonella contamination of Peter Pan peanut butter made by ConAgra Foods Inc that sickened 425 people. Just last month, California produce grower Metz Fresh LLC said it recalled fresh spinach in grocery stores and food service packages after a sample tested positive for salmonella. Here we go again,it really upsets me about this stuff. The place where I shop I asked the owner to stop buying stuff from california when we had the spinach problem and he did,he buys some great Canadian spinach, but it really upsets me with this new report,,heck I just want to make a salad and stay alive.

Can you wash off E.coli?

Contaminated water is what made the big spinach recall in the US. And it couldn't be washed off. It was in the very water that the plants consumed,so sometimes the plant can absorb the e-coli strain into the leaf itself, but not always. Its best to wash even the bagged pre-washed stuff..
