I translated this article from a Swedish paper, Västerbottenskuriren:
Dogsledge, scooter and singing rock.
The Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant enjoyed himself celebrating New Year in the small ski resort Borgafjäll. The 3 days were filled with snow scooter, dog sledge and thundering rock music in the pub, where he was on stage himself. It was a fun New Year’s eve, he says.
Robert Plant stole the new years show in Borgafjäll. In an improvised version of Blue Suede Shoes and Lucille, he entertained the guests in the fully booked hotel. The musicians of the evening, Riff Raff Ruff nearly fell off stage when the famous rocker introduced himself on that Friday evening.
He also asked if it was ok that he sang a few songs with them on new years eve – No one objected to that.” It really was a cool thing we never thought we would get to experience”, says the guitarist and singer, Tobias Granberg. It wasn’t exactly a bad thing that everyone in the band,, that comes from Umeå, likes seventies rock. ”We had recently seen a Led Zeppelin concert on TV and he still had the same style on stage as back then” he says.
The Sunday was for natural reasons a bit calmer for Robert Plant. He was invited as a guest to the Lövbrand family, owners of the Borgafjäll hotel. Him and Lisa Lövbrand took the opportunity to go riding dogsledge with Husky Express from Klimpfjäll. The visit to Borgafjäll was entirely private but the media pressure on the Vice President of Borgafjäll Hotel, Yvonne Lövbrand, was massive during the New Year. The fact that the polar prize winner Robert plant celebrated new year in Borgafjäll couldn’t be kept secret for long but very few journalists will go ten Swedish miles through thick, unploughed snow north west of Dorotea on a new years eve.
”Borgafjäll is good. It’s calm here and one can avoid the stress experienced on the big ski resorts” says Yvonne Lövbrand. Robert Plant was very keen to make the most of the Swedish winter on the few days he visited Borgafjäll. Later on the new years day he went through Dorotea to Vilhelmina by car to continue by plane to his home outside London. ”I am in a bit of a hurry, so we will have to do an interview another time. The days are so short up here”, says Robert plant.
