Woodstock heads to Broadway Lang to produce untitled musical with Nappi Woodstock One of the men behind Woodstock aims to bring a tuner about the 1969 music fest to Broadway some time next season. Producer Michael Lang -- an originator of the landmark event -- said he intends the show's score to be drawn from tunes of the era as well as include new songs by creatives who performed at the original fest. Musical's book will be based in part on "The Road to Woodstock," the recently released tome penned by Lang and Holly George-Warren. No book writer or director is yet formally attached to the legit project. Lang hopes to produce a workshop in the next year and have a production up and running for the 2010-11 season, a timeline he acknowledges is optimistic. Lang will produce the untitled tuner with Sam Nappi, the chairman of Alliance Energy, an org that specializes in green power generation. He's also begun talking to Rialto vets about lending experienced hands to the producing team. The flower-power vibe of the late '60s already has carved out a successful Broadway berth with "Hair," which picked up the revival Tony this year and has regularly posted weekly sales of more than $1 million. Lang said the success of that show encouraged him to pursue the Woodstock project, as did the increased level of attention prompted by the fest's 40th anniversary this year.
