Paul McCartney & Ringo Starr: Live On The Web!
Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are to speak at a press conference in aid of the David Lynch Foundation as it prepares to launch its initiative to teach one million at-risk youths the art of Transcendental Meditation.
The event will take place at New York's Radio City Music Hall tomorrow afternoon. The ex-Beatle pals will be joined by legendary filmmaker David Lynch and a panel of leading doctors and educators.
A benefit concert, Change Begins Within, will follow on Saturday (April 4) at the same venue. Sheryl Crow, Donovan, Eddie Vedder, Ben Harper, Moby, Paul Horn, Bettye LaVette, Mike Love and Jim James are all set to line up with Macca and Ringo.
"I like the idea of bringing an ancient practice into the modern world," said McCartney. "Who would have thought that by introducing meditation into the education system you could lower people's aggression levels and get a more peaceful society?
Looking back on the Beatles experience with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in 1968, McCartney recalled: "He was a very spiritual and intelligent man, but what made him so endearing to me was his infectious sense of humor.
"I think meditation offers a moment in your day to be at peace with yourself and therefore the universe, which once was thought of as a slightly silly hippie idea, but now it's much more accepted and even fits with some of the most advanced scientific thinking."
All will be revealed when the press conference is broadcast via www.DavidLynchFoundation.org at 12pm (EST) and 5pm (BST) tomorrow (Friday, April 3).
