I'm from Washington State, USA. Born in the capital city of Olympia, but I am living in Tacoma now. Where are you from?

Wow really. It's not that big of a town. Maybe they know each other. He's now retired but worked for the city of Salem for quite a while.

It's a possibility that they know each other, although my sister doesn't get out that much and sticks to her small circle of friends, so it's doubtful. She works for the University there as a teacher for the pre-school aged children's program. She recently came out of the closet after being in it for a very long time, and it didn't surprise me much at all. I am happy if she is happy, and she seems much happier now that she can be more open in her life with all of us in the family. I am just very open-minded like that. As a matter of fact, she is my 2nd gay sister. My youngest sister has been out in the open about her sexuality since she was about 17. So I am already quite used to having that way of life in my life. The only thing that I find sad about thier way of life is the lack of consistancy in love relationships. They don't seem to be able to find the right one to settle down with too easily. So I feel sorry for them because of that.

Everybody has their own path to tread. I must say I do like the continuity of having long term relationships. Can be worth the hassles.
So what's it like where you live Debbie?

Well, it is rather rough where I live now. The teenagers have started to act like they are living in a ghetto, and have started to form gangs and start gang wars etc. around here. It used to be so peaceful 20 years ago, but it isn't now. So that makes me sad. I live in a suburb of Tacoma, so I am not in the city, which is very good because it is worse in the city. Seattle is far less violent than Tacoma the city I live outside of. But I live 2 hours drive from the ocean and 2 hours drive from as high as you can drive to the "top" of Mt. Rainier. So the nature around us is very beautiful. It makes it worth it to live here. The rainy and cloudy weather is rough, but when the sun finally comes out it is quite breathtaking around here. So that is nice. What's it like where you live?

Southwest Michigan is where the ice age glaciers stopped so there is a lot of flat formerly swampy land (mosquito heaven) bordered to the south by a line of more rugged ridges and hills where all the debris ended up. There used to be a fair amount of Indian habitation and actually still is. The swamps were drained in the 1800s to make farmland where they now grow a lot of corn and soy for cattle feed and ethanol. My town has about 2000 people and is fairly peaceful except for the meth busts. Not many hippies though. Kind of a dull but peaceful area with country roads and woods to explore, some lakes and small creatures to catch a glimpse of. Cold winters, lazy summers, yard sales, lots of good hearted small town folks.

I much prefer the pace and attitude of a small town. Many of them are also safer than bigger towns and cities. They exist everywhere and housing in them is often ridiculously cheap. The main problem is jobs so you can't expect to make as much money as in a city and the jobs may not be as interesting either. There is also not as much to do in a small town so you have to learn to amuse yourself much more. I lived in big cities most of the time I was growing up and though I do miss the excitement and variety, I also appreciate the peacefulness and low stress and don't think I would ever go back.

I don't blame you for not wanting to go back. I am really hoping to be able to sell this house when the kids are moved out and be able to move to a smaller community. That would be really cool!
